Ziza Bafana Pleads Guilty Fined Shs75K Released

RAKAI, Uganda|SHIFTMEDIA| Though noise from opposition politicians had started emerging that singer Ziza Bafana (Richard Kasendwa) was detained because of his affiliation to People Power Movement, it has emerged that he was detained for flouting Presidential directives on COVID 19.

Kasendwa who appeared before the Kalisizo Grade II magistrate of Kasaali court, D.A.G. Luwaga, on Tuesday along with others pleaded guilty and asked for forgiveness after he and others were each sentenced to fine of Ugx 75,000 (USD$ 20) or be jailed for three months. They each opted to pay the money before they were released.

Richard Kasendwa aka Ziza Bafana and his four alleged accomplices were arrested after they sneaked into Tanzania in August where they had a performance.

Bafana and his colleagues pleaded guilty to having disobeyed the Presidential directives after they entered Tanzania, thereby by putting their lives and those of others at the risk of catching Covid-19.

According to prosecution, on August 31, 2020, Bafana and other artistes are said to have sneaked into Tanzania through Mutukula porous border and went to perform at a music concert.

He was later arrested alongside Shaban Nsamba aka DJ Shan, Aron Kakiza aka Heizo music, Shaffik Ismael, a music promoter and Bashir Batstuta Ssekamanje aka Duke Play, a presenter at Buganda Kingdom’s based BBS and handed over to Ugandan authorities.
