What perhaps started as a simple joke, way back in 2017 when Ezekiel, aged 11, a Primary Four pupil at Hormisdallen School, in Kamwokya, won the Uganda Has Got Talent competitions at Club Obligato, seems to be  taking him to the heights.

Ezekiel Mutesasira and his sister Esther Mutesasira both children of gospel musician Julie Mutesasira and Pastor Steven Mutesasira, are now (USD$50,000) Ugx180 million richer, after emerging the winners of the inaugural East Africa Has Got Talent that showed cased in the Kenyan Capital, Nairobi for over 10 weeks, ending on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

East Africa’s Got Talent is a talent show competition that is part of the Got Talent franchise owned by Simon Cowell.

The competition was judged by; Jeff Koinange a Kenyan TV show host at Citizen TV, former Big Brother Africa contestant and 91.3 Capital FM presenter Gaetano Kagwa from Uganda, Tanzanian singer-songwriter Vanessa Mdee and DJ Contact Makeda from Rwanda.

Esther and Ezekiel who thrilled the Globe with their lung breaking songs, scooped the award after beating fellow Ugandan dance group, DNA, Jehovah Shallom Akapella, another Ugandan group, Kenya’s group Spell cast, 8 year old Janelle Tamala and Rwanda’s Intayoberana who came second.

Out of the six acts on the finals, Uganda had three groups, Kenya had two groups and Rwanda had one group which gave Uganda a higher chance of taking it home.   8 year old Janelle Tamala emerged third best.

The show produced by South African film production company Rapid Blue, was broadcast simultaneously across four countries in East Africa; Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.

The programme showcases a variety of talents from people of all ages from East Africa, with acts ranging from singing, dancing, comedy, magic, juggling, stunts and other variety genres.
